Are you struggling with low mood, anxiety, stress, or relationship issues? Do you feel stuck, or trapped in patterns that leave you unhappy? I can help you find a way forward and gradually let go of what’s holding you back. As a gay man, I know how identity and discrimination can also impact mental health.

I’m a registered social worker and psychotherapist who has supported clients with anxiety, depression, trauma, addictions, sexuality and gender concerns, work stress, grief, and other life issues since 2018. Trained in a number of evidence-based therapies, I use an integrative approach based on what you bring to session.

My approach to therapy is trauma-informed, strengths-based, and non-judgmental. I work with you to figure out what’s important to you, and what’s blocking you from where you want to be. Your ability to connect with your therapist is a large part of therapy, and I pay close attention to that process so that you can feel comfortable opening up.

Starting therapy can feel challenging, and finding the right therapist can be difficult. With that in mind, I offer a free 15-minute consultation to discuss working together. You can book this through my website, or by phone or email. I am available in-person and online throughout the week.

trauma-informed therapy

Practicing trauma-informed therapy means that I am aware that many people who seek therapy have experienced some sort of trauma in their lives, from big, life-altering events, to more persistent patterns of neglect or mistreatment.

All types of trauma disrupt our lives and the way that we relate to ourselves and to others, and so I am very mindful of this when working with you, and look for ways to ease the suffering that trauma creates in your life — at a pace that feels safe for you.

Strengths-based therapy

Working from a strengths-based approach means that I acknowledge the whole person in therapy, not just your “symptoms.” I acknowledge that, while you may come in with things that you want to change about your life, you also come with strengths, assets, and things that you are already doing to feel better. I make sure to acknowledge and emphasize these strengths in session to help you make the most of them.

NON-JUDGMENT

Coming from a place of non-judgement means that I accept you as you are, and do not judge any of the struggles that you discuss with me. This principle comes from personal experience, as well as mindfulness teachings that guide us to make space for all aspects of our experience — the “good” and the “bad”, wanted and unwanted. Cultivating acceptance of your struggles is often the first step forward in changing them.
