I am a registered social worker and psychotherapist in practice since 2018.

I am trained in a number of different evidence-based therapies, and I integrate these approaches based on what you bring to session. I tend to draw on techniques primarily from these four approaches:

EMOTION-FOCUSED THERAPY (EFT)

EFT focuses on transforming painful emotions that keep you stuck. Because so many of us tend to deny, dismiss, or judge our painful emotions, we miss out on the important information contained within them. We stay locked in painful cycles that persist until we face these challenging emotions and learn to make sense of them — with the help of an empathetic and supportive therapist.

COGNITIVE-BEHAVIOURAL THERAPY (CBT)

CBT also addresses patterns, and helps you to see the connections between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. CBT focuses on identifying problematic thinking patterns and helps you to create more helpful thoughts instead. You also learn to identify and implement helpful behaviours to support emotional shifts.

MINDFULNESS

Mindfulness is paying attention to the present moment with acceptance. In therapy, you’re guided to pay attention to your thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations to gain new insights and awareness into your situation. This allows you to learn to sit with uncomfortable feelings, and to find ways forward. Once you become aware of something you want to change, you’ve taken the first step in changing that thing.

DIALECTICAL BEHAVIOR THERAPY (DBT)

DBT is a skill-based therapy that teaches you how to manage your emotions and relationships in productive ways, to “ride the wave” of intense urges and distress to arrive safely on the other side of them. DBT demonstrates the “yes and” approach to life - yes, life can be painful sometimes, and it can be possible to build a more peaceful life.
